Testosterone is hailed as the male sex hormone and is responsible for the development of many sexual characteristics in men. Why Testosterone is Vital?
Produced at the onset of puberty, testosterone hormone is at highest levels in the mid 20s and lowest in the older ages. In men, testosterone is made in the testicles and the pituitary gland controls the functioning of this hormone. It is responsible for deepening of the voice, growth of pubic hair, and production of sperm in young boys. In case, the testosterone levels in the body are low, the pituitary gland releases a hormone known as luteinizing hormone (LH). This hormone then triggers the production of testosterone in the body. If a man experiences problems related to his sexual health, a testosterone test is done to diagnose the problem. The testosterone in the blood is usually bound to a hormone called sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG). The rest of the testosterone hormones are free from the blood and during diagnosis, it is these parts that help doctors to detect signs of sexual health complications.

The Risks of Too Much Testosterone

High testosterone levels in body can be due to natural over production of this hormone or it can be due to taking artificial supplements of steroids that claim to boost testosterone levels.
